I’m not a super fan of mushrooms unless they are morels, oyster or porcinis (ok. I guess I do like mushrooms), but I do love marveling at the intricate, complicated formations of fungi. The delicate underside of these shitake mushrooms that we had with our salmon recently were spectacular – so fragile and soft, but with a most beautiful coloring. Some of the photos (I know, I got carried away) were suggestive of peony petals and fabric pleats.

never thought of mushroom as petals, but now i can see the correlation! beautiful photos. i love shitake and i’m so sad that after giving birth, i developed some sort of allergic reaction to them.

Catherine. I’m just using a Canon G7, which is a point and shoot, so no special lense. I am dying for a digital slr though!!

I am anxiously awaiting tomorrows Farmers Market here in mid-coast Maine, where I get locally grown Hens in the Woods mushrooms. The are absolutely delicious. I have the butter and filo waiting, to make little mushroom pastries for our Vernal Equinox Celebration on Sunday! Happy Spring everybody! Our lingering ice and snow will be gone GONE gone any day now!
Selkie, that sounds delicious. It snowed this morning in NYC you know! After having 50 degree days. It was really really weird.
It snowed here in Philly too. I was pretty annoyed and so ready for Spring. That is so cool that you took those pics with a point-and-shoot. I need to work on my photos. Inspiring!
