claudine eats something green!

And there’s photographic evidence!
I hereby declare April 2010 as the month that Claudine eats arugula.
Because chances are, it won’t happen again. I never thought her picky-ness could get worse, but it has and now that she understands what “picky” means, she goes around telling everyone she’s a picky eater as if it absolves her from ever eating anything that is not a plate of plain pasta, cereal, bacon, string cheese or a waffle. Those are the 5 food groups according to Claudine.
Will it ever get better?

Ha! Tip of the iceberg! She will branch out, I promise. Just keep eating different things around her. D is getting downright adventurous….after 8 years of eating blacks beans and bagels. Seriously.
PS Love that natty little hat on her too!
Yayyy! But why won’t she eat any again? Looks like she was agreeable with this serving, yeah? Adorable pictures, too. Wearing that cap is just too too much.
Hooray for Claudine! as mother of another picky eater I know just what a huge achievement that is! Perhaps the pink hat inspired her.
! Just yesterday my boss was just telling me how picky her son still is. He is into plain pasta as well. He isn’t really into meat either + hardly any vege, unless she hides them eg zucchini in muffins. Vege fritters with nice dipping sauce is also a no.
Hmm I’m making myself hungry now…
your kids are beyond adorable! those round cheeks!
maia (my now 5 yr old)used to be very picky too but it has gotten better the past year. she even ate a green salad the other day (i had never dared try it before and i couldn’t believe my eyes when she ate it).
LOL! Tino’s food groups are: waffles and pancakes; chicken nuggets & fish sticks; bread and cheese; peanut butter and nutella. Plus every time someone offers him something he doesn’t eat he tells them he’s allergic. But I’ve heard that it gets better… fingers crossed.
How adorable is Claudine! She’s the cutest!
I love the first picture! In my mind, she’s saying, “what moooooom? It’s not that big of a deal. It’s just me eating some green. Not something you need to document.” She is so adorable.
My second girl is also a picky eater it has been our biggest stress factor. Arugula is a hard one for kids. I’m impressed! My older daughter is a good eater, but she usually avoids vegetables. One time, my friend told me that if you have a girl, you don’t have to worry about her not eating vegetables because once they hit teens, they would only want to eat green salads. That made me feel better. Kaho
First, your daughters are gorgeous! Being picky is a way for Claudine to assert herself and you need to accept that in certain ways. If food is the way, so be it.
My son was so picky when he was small. We’re Lebanese and he won’t touch anything at family dinners. As soon as we started accepting that he was just trying to have a choice in something, it made it easier.
He’s a Freshman in college now and eats almost everything. Of course, there are a few quirky things he won’t touch, but he’s healthy and happy. Looking back, I remember just asking him to try things. If he still didn’t like it, that was fine too. The bigger the deal, the pickier they become.
As a parent, it’s all you really hope for. Those little battles just endear your memories when they’re grown up.
My little girl used to eat everything. Then all of the sudden one day a few months ago – nothing. It was milk and waffles for a week. She’s slowly adding more to the Abby-approved list of foods. The list is at about 15, so I have hope. She loves to cook with me and I hear that encourages kids to try new things, but I’ve yet to see that benefit. I actually read somewhere that since it’s pretty natural for small children to dislike veggies, they may not really need them until they are a little older. The problem is when they never develope a taste for them. It sounds like you’re doing the right thing by offering her a variety of foods. I’m sure she’ll grow out of it.
That first photo is priceless! She’s going to tell you off one day for sharing that one. Hehe.
Adele
I agree, that first photo is great!
it will it will it will!
just don’t force her, but continue to offer her all kinds of foods. i was once an atrociously picky eater myself – my parents didn’t even WANT to bring me out! – but today i am a self-confessed foodie who’ll not only NOT turn down the chance to try anything at least once, but will actively search for new foods to try! i changed from someone obsessed with limiting the kinds of foods i ate to someone obsessed with continually expanding my food-related experiences. funnily enough, i was a fat child but am now at a healthy weight for my height.
stay patient with claudine!
ps. i refused to eat vegetables or anything remotely healthy until i was about 15 years old, and now i can’t get enough!! making up for lost time??
I could forgive her anything – she’s gorgeous
yeah, you officially have the cutest babies on the planet!
HI, I do not know if Claudine is still picky, but have you tried with risotto? I can put anything in it and it is always a success!
