if we had a shop, we would serve this

apricot, pineapple buttermilk, grapefruit ginger, lemon olive oil, blueberry yogurt, sorrel, mango basil.
These are all sorbets that Mark made recently. We tried 4 of them (really, really curious about the sorrel!) and yup, they were all good, especially the lemon olive oil and pineapple buttermilk. The acidic sharpness of the pineapple and tart lemon made a really interesting counterpoint and was tempered by the smoothness of the olive oil and buttermilk.
When we talk about a store, what we get excited about is the ice cream and sorbets. There’s a reason why it was our first business idea, but we always got stumped on the fact that it was such a seasonal product. What do you do in the winter? But we wouldn’t have that problem anymore with the cookies. While the business may be running like a machine now (a human Mark machine), he still gets plenty of joy from making ice creams and sorbets.

those flavors sounds absolutely delightful! i wish i could try them…
Lots of people eat icecream in the winter
When I come to New York I’ll visit your shop. I adore good sweets!
Oh YUM! I’ve been thinking about getting an ice cream maker – any recommendations?
i’d eat ice cream cookie sandwiches all year long!

Ice cream is a year-round treat for me…
C’mon open a shop!!!
The colours are so pretty! I’ll take a scoop of the blueberry yogurt please!
Beautiful photos, Jennna.
Please, please open the store so we can come every weekend. Do it for the kids!
Hi Jenna,
I read your blog every day and love it–especially your stories about your kids and the ones from the “old days!” Anyway, what you wrote today instantly made me think of a local gem here in the DC area–The Dairy Godmother. This is a small, mom and pop-style ice cream shop that sells frozen custards, amazing sorbets, and baked goods. They are located in Alexandria, VA in a very family friendly little neighborhood and they are incredibly popular–even President Obama took his kids there. They manage to make things work and DC isn’t exactly ice cream-friendly in the winter. Maybe you could get in contact with the owner just to chat about her business and how they make things work.

i am definitely an all-seasons ice-cream eater. no doubt.
be still my ice cream heart.
Jenna, check out Berkeley’s ICI ice cream.
It’s EXACTLY the flavors you create. Go to Yelp.com and type in ICI for Berkeley, CA. There are lines year round. The winter flavors are equally exciting and delicious as the summer ones. This is what you’re talking about.
I just can’t wait. And I hope your photography will always be up on the wall.
your store would be beautiful i’m sure- sorbet in the summer, baked goods and tea in the winter? i’d go.
Yes please to lemon olive oil. I prefer ice cream shops in the winter – less crowded.
omg! trust me, i would still eat this in the winter.
xo
Sounds sooooooooo delicious! Wish I could try the sorrel flavor!
o, why o why don’t you have a store. yum yum! you are such a tease!
Oh my goodness. Those flavours sound divine! I had olive oil and black pepper gelato two days ago… it was perfect. I can only imagine how lovely your sorbet was.
omg… i wish i could try all the flavours you have!
There is a beautiful chocolate shop close to my house in Toronto and they make gelato all year long (but only for scooping during the spring/summer). We buy tubs of it all winter.
With flavours like the ones you told us about, I don’t think you’d have any trouble selling during the frosty months.
Yum-o
My family and I, even growing up, never thought of ice cream as a seasonal thing. Perhaps that’s because I grew up in California. Now in Georgia, my husband and I still eat ice cream year-round. It’s always good! Those flavors sound sooo delicious.
Oh the dream of ice cream sandwiches made with love!
