so…what’s up with the site? why’s it taking so long?

I know. The Whimsy & Spice site has been down for awhile now. What’s up live is the vintage site, pre-ecommerce, circa summer of 2008. So what’s taking so long you wonder (or not)? It took us awhile to migrate to the new server. I had been sitting on this since we moved the blog over to the new server in April, but I wanted to wait after Mother’s Day to move the e-commerce site. I was in the middle of doing that 2 weeks ago. Our W&S site is on the new server now, but because of busy schedules and some health issues, I’ve been waiting patiently for our trusty programmer to finish the migration and rebuild and update our site.
It’s been a lesson in patience. Everything we do for the business is handled in-house: Mark bakes, ships, packages and delivers and I do everything else: photos, labels, design. This means that we’re self sufficient and don’t have to wait around for anyone’s schedules but ours to clear before things get done. But we do outsource the programming. And so we wait.
But can I be honest? If I were in a desperate rush, I suppose I would have hired someone else (I’m loyal to the people I work with, however), but I have to say that this little break from orders off our site has been welcome. It’s not to say that Mark hasn’t been busy. All our other shops on etsy and foodzie are open, as well as wholesale and the Flea, so he’s been busy enough, but that’s the point. When you own your own business, when do you ever get a break?
You don’t.
So, that’s why our site has been down so long. It’s one part waiting for the right resources to line up and 1 part calculated to give ourselves a little break.
Because come noon EST today, Friday, it’s gonna be madness.
Update: Yes, we’re Etsy featured seller! OMG, you guys…
