storm king. in the fall. omg.

Have you ever seen anything more wonderous than this display of Fall glory? I’m telling you, this is exactly what makes New England famous for its Fall foliage (although New York isn’t technically considered New England, is it? Eh, technicalities). You might remember our first trip to Storm King when Mia was in preschool 2 years ago. We vowed to go back soon, but we didn’t make it back until the kids’ preschool took their annual Storm King field trip, this time with Claudine as a student.

Yeah, it was pretty cold out, but the leaves, oh the leaves! I would gladly suffer through the chill to be surrounded by these leaves again. I think this time it trumped the art. NYC is only now just turning colors for real, but a few hours north it’s at its prime. It didn’t even look real, like movie set leaves with unreal colors. For contrast, here’s what Storm King looks like in May. It’s a totally different place.

(ps. I really like that more than half of the teachers at Claudine’s school are men (you can see 2 of them with her in the photo above). Some of them were Mia’s teachers as well (and now she’s got a male teacher in first grade this year too), but while Claudine’s been in toddler classes with some of the same male teachers, she made sure to never talk or make eye contact with them. For NEARLY 2 YEARS, sheesh. Needless to say, being in school has really helped her get over her shyness/fear of guys and she loves her teachers, all of them. Which you know, is a good thing because I totally envisioned her going through the whole school year ignoring and giving her guy teachers the cold shoulder.)

I know this is weird, but it actually looks more alive in the fall than in the summer….those leaves are amazing!!! I really want to go there to that exact spot! It’s so beautiful! I can see why you like that place.I also wanted to tell you that I think you are very photogenic! I like your hat & fingerless gloves…those are my fave. Our leaves have changed colors a few weeks ago here in VA…I don’t think there is anything prettier than driving down a tree lined road in the fall…such beautiful colors!Oh,would you mind if I keep Claudine, she is so darn cute! :) I could just love on that baby face all day long, she’s so cute!

Oh wow, so this is what a real fall looks like! Here on the wet west coast, fall is just gray and rainy, the leaves change colour and fall to the ground all soggy and yucky and clog the storm drains. I can only imagine how beautiful fall is out your way!

  • mina November 2, 2010 at 6:56 pm

This is one of the most beautiful collections of photos ever. Stunning.

  • Lecia November 4, 2010 at 3:11 pm

OMG!!! Unbelievably beautiful. I was going to say, nice that so many dads came on the field trip then I read that they are teachers! Whether they be dads or teachers, still great that the kids are getting time with men – childhood can be unbalanced in that way (mostly time with moms/women/female teachers for many kids).

  • Jenna November 4, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Lecia, Mia has a guy teacher for 1st grade too and he’s just great. There are 6 guy teachers at Claudine’s school and they all were there but lots and lots of dads came on the trip too.

  • Niki November 5, 2010 at 4:09 am

FANTASTIC photos, Jenna. Love your entire outfit, especially the coat. Claudine is adorable as always. Btw, those teachers are smokin’…ooh la la! Haha. :)
