New Year

January 3, 2012 |  Category:   life nyc outings

20 degree temperature drop today. But on New Years Eve and New Year’s Day it was warm and 50 and we decided to go to Coney Island. Are these people really swimming in the ocean? Yes! The Polar Bear Club does a New Year’s Day swim every year and since it wasn’t freezing outside, we decided to come watch.
You know how certain plans work out better in your mind than in real life? I’m glad we went. It was good to see the ocean, to see the horizon and see the sunlight sparkle on the water. It just so happens that there was a party going on around us so it wasn’t exactly peaceful as I imagined it, but it was festive!

I’ve done brief year end reviews in the past, mostly in pictures, but I think I’ll skip that this year. I want to look ahead. 2011 was definitely less drama filled than 2010. Let’s keep that up.

What a great way to spend New Year’s Day. Seems like the perfect combination of celebration and relaxation.

Sounds like it was fun–those are some great photos! We had plans to watch our local polar bear dip (definitely not as many people, though), but missed them. So we got the peaceful walk instead. :)

Oh how funny – if the water is not like bath water there is no chance of I would be getting in. How brave of all those people or have they had a little Dutch courage? :)

Happy New Year! I am definitely looking forward too! On New Years Day morning in Maine the beach was peaceful and I had my own polar bear club party (of one). I could not convince my husband to join me in the chilly atlantic waters.

I look forward to reading all your family adventures in 2012! Here’s to a new year!

Ha, we did the same thing! I wasn’t expecting to really enjoy it but I did. Plus we had to park like a mile and half away in Brighton Beach so we had an unexpectedly nice long walk on the boardwalk.
    Happy 2012!

Just wanted to drop by and tell you that when we were visiting family in St. Louis, they brought out some treats a distant relative had sent them – a basket sampler of Brooklyn fare. And inside were some of your chocolate gingersnap cookies! I was so surprised! It was like unexpectedly running into an old friend. “I know these people,” I said. “They have the cutest little girls.” LOL… The cookies were amazing. I hoarded them all and loved every single one. I MUST place an order for myself soon.

Absolutely beautiful photographs – very uplifting and light. Watching the sunshine sparkle and bounce off the water is one of my favourite things; very inspiring and soothing. Looks like you had a wonderful time. Wishing you and your family a very happy new year – looking forward to keeping up with your blog.
