a lot of this going on these days

Though the tantrums seem to have gotten a bit better since she made this card a few weeks ago. Being 5 is hard. C’s no longer a baby and there’s this expectation that she can meet discipline, a firm no, or change in plans with reason, but it’s been a struggle. I always find it fascinating how kids can cry at the drop of a hat. I know that it’s because it’s the only means of communication before babies and toddlers can talk, but even at 5 years old, the tears can still flow in an instant, unlike Mia who expresses her anger and disappointment through words and body language. Claudine still cries and sometimes it can escalate into tantrums where she can’t stop crying.
I don’t think anyone could have guessed some of the surprises in her personality when she was a baby. She’s still fairly mellow and a bit reserved, but kindergarten has given her the confidence that I was hoping it would. What we didn’t anticipate was how much of a chatty talker and a goofball she is. I think it’s safe to say that at this moment, she’s the silliest clown of the family, and that’s been unexpected.
