Remember last’s year’s “We ate this” post? Might have to bring it back. Not that we were exactly bombarding you with recipes all year, but we do have a different reason – an experiment that I’m hoping to reveal later on in the Fall. We’ll see. I just hope that we retain the motivation and steam that this project requires. In the meantime, you might get some sneak peeks on Instagram. My friend Anna correctly observed that Instagram is like a giant spoiler for blog posts. So true!


And so…we ate this the other night. Clams with a lemongrass coconut mint broth. And yeah, that is totally an Ikea toy frying pan that the spaghetti is in. Oh and that cutting board under the corn is from a Melissa and Doug wooden food set. We’re sooo fancy. Maybe I need to buy proper food styling props. Or maybe this is why I find food styling tedious, because we don’t have nice dishes, hmmm…

    I’m not sure what you are up to… but I’m sure it’s gonna be fantastic :)
    I hear ya on the food styling. In some ways I love seeing perfectly styled shots with perfectly mismatched plates and perfectly coordinating but not to matchy-matchy napkins. But then I picture the closet of props and feel like I woulf be overwhelmed with the urge to purge at 2am! There is something refreshing about seeing food photographed in a way that I imagine it would actually still be warm enough to eat!

    I love that you used a Melissa and Doug cutting board! Sometimes we use the pizza roller on real dough, though the kids are now getting too old for that and demand a normal sized one.

    Those clams look amazeballs. I had Frankie’s linguini and clams last night and am kind of desperate to recreate it.

    Thank you for notating the IKEA toy frying pan and M&D cutting board. Wouldn’t have guessed it, but that made it even more enjoyable. Food looks so good.

    Saw this on Instagram and instantly need shellfish. We ate mussels in white wine instead! Great shot… your food pics are really nice. I really enjoy when you post ” meals” to mix things up.

    @Karina Oh, that would require a recipe wouldn’t it? Ha! Often times Mark just wings it, which is why we aren’t really the best at writing recipes for the blog.

    This looks lovely and I love your food shots. I really like that everything isn’t in or on fancy things. (And I love the super dark background in this and in some of your recent instagrams. Is this a surface in your kitchen? Does asking this making me sound stalker-ish? Sorry if it does…)

    And good look with the motivation and steam. Maybe this will be something to look back on next June?

    Thanks for telling me about the drawing table – it is such a great background! (It’s made me think about surfaces for our kitchen…)
