Sands point, the guggenheim estate

Our fascination with the Gold Coast Mansions of Long Island continues and we found a new one to visit last weekend at Sands Point, which is the home to the Guggenheim Estate. There are walking trails and acres of grass to set up a picnic, and access to a quiet beach which hands down sealed the deal when we were thinking of places to go on that sunny Saturday. We had space to run, think and enjoy the view; pretty much the perfect place to spend a day.

And you know what I did? Read. Not on my phone, not on the computer, but an actual book. Sadly, I can’t remember the last time I read a book uninterrupted in one sitting like that. I’ll admit that when I attempt to read at home, the temptation to answer emails that come in is too damn hard. I can’t even watch TV or a movie without multitasking on my computer. Sad, isn’t it? Or is this a new normal?
Now that I am making the moves to declutter my life on various fronts, I’m hoping I can change some habits and focus on things one at a time, just as we used to do without so many distractions.

I love your gold coast posts, we live in DC but last year, when we visited my best friend in Queens, we checked out Coe Hall. Now I’ll add this one to the bucket list. Thank you!

Oh I’m glad you got a chance to go! They are all different and this one was great because of the ocean access. I don’t know what it’s like at the height of summer of if you’re even allowed to swim, but we had the whole beach pretty much to ourselves. Heavenly!

I know I always bother you about this, but can you do a recent purchases post? I love your style when it comes to clothing, jewelry and home furnishings!

Hi lauren! I haven’t been doing any recent purchases post because I haven’t really been shopping. Made a goal this year to shop less, save even more. Let me see if I can do a round up of the few things I have bought so far this year. I think my last post was january! thanks for checking in.

I follow your blog from Geneva, Switzerland. I like the fact that you seem to be reflecting a lot and I enjoy the photos. Thanks

Well, now I’m very curious to know what book you chose! I LOVE sitting down somewhere with an actual paper book. I read before bed a lot, but somehow it isn’t the same as daytime reading, or especially outdoor reading.

We love to visit all the old estates around here too. Often they are nearly deserted and we actually feel like we own the place!
