A big thank you for all your thoughts and well wishes. It makes a difference.

These are some photos from our weekend, which was actually quite nice with a few outings and milder, sunny weather. It almost felt spring-like. Almost. Things haven’t really changed in Mark’s dad’s condition, which is to say that it isn’t very good news. Mark decided to push up his trip a few days and he’s leaving in an hour. The weather does not look good and there is snow in the forecast starting tonight and all week upstate, and if you know anything about me you know that I’m very uncomfortable with cars in general, especially driving in bad weather. It’s going to be an uneasy week.

The girls have not been away from Mark, ever. They’re quite attached to him since he’s around a lot and they’re both feeling stress from his departure. We’re not sure when he’ll be back. I’m not well either. I have bronchitis again after having finished my round of antibiotics 2 weeks ago and I’ve got a very painful cough-related injury in the ribs now. Weird. The girls say that they are going to “take care of me”. I just hope we have a peaceful few days.

As a fellow worrier I feel your pain. Trust that Mark will be careful and be positive that he’ll arrive safe + sound. I know it’s MUCH easier said than done but I’ve learned all worrying does is make you feel even more miserable and with your second round of bronchitis, you definitely don’t need to feel worse. Hopefully you can get some rest and be feeling better in no time! I just returned home from the doctor where I’ve been diagnosed with my third viral infection in ten weeks so I know how awful & frustrating that can be. Sending positive thoughts & prayers your way.

Sounds like Pleurisy. I had it, it’s an infection in the lining of the lung – it’s VERY painful but I don’t think it’s dangerous.

  • Michelle February 22, 2010 at 6:46 pm

Jenna, during a long-ago serious bout of pneumonia, I experienced the sort of sharp pain you are describing in my ribs. It felt like a severe “charlie horse”, that made it difficult to sit up in bed or turn. Months later, the follow-up chest x-ray revealed that I had cracked three ribs from coughing. The doctor said that they were hairline fractures that didn’t show up in the initial x-ray, but are apparent once they have healed. I suspect that may be your trouble. For what it’s worth, there is nothing you can do for cracked ribs but allow them to heal on their own. I do urge you to revisit the doctor, however — you need to take care of yourself, especially at this stressful time. My best wishes to you and your family.

Eek. Sending positive, healthy, warm vibes to you and your family. Please get checked out! Don’t want to be reading about pneumonia, only cookies and cute little girls.

Yeah, I had that pain in the ribs – bronchitis right after Thanksgiving – lasted all of 2 days but suffered through January with the pulled muscle! I had it a month until I got wise and went to the chiropractor. I pulled a muscle in the ribs from all the coughing. I really wished I would have gone to the chiro weeks before I did – could have avoided a lot of discomfort. Check it out – your doctor can find the knot in the muscles and then you can treat it. Besides, who doesn’t love getting a massage and ultrasound treatment!

As the type of person who has every illness go straight to my lungs, I know the rib pain you’re talking about.
As a previous commented mentioned, it could be hairline fractures, or a pulled muscle. Either way it’s scary and it sucks.
I’ve found that accupuncture helps tremendously for me, both with the pain and bronchial illness. Wrapping your ribs tightly with a bandage is a decent stopgap if it’s really really hurting and you just can’t spare time to get to a doc.

I hope you feel better soon. I’m certain your husband will be safe in his journey and I hope that any news that follows is good, or at least tolerable.

take care lady, we’re all rooting for you.

Like they say, when it rains,it pours…unfortunately. We always believe that God doesn’t give a person more than they can handle,so while it may seem tough to get through….you’ll make it with faith, patience & perserverance. I hope the news about Mark’s dad gets better. You’ll have to be strong & comforting for him when he gets back.I’m glad you have the girls around b/c they will help you get better faster….I know my girls liked to take care of me when they were little & still do now. 🙂 If you keep feeling any worse, you should really go to the doctor to take care of yourself. I’ll be watching for updates…hopefully all goes well.

  • kate February 23, 2010 at 12:11 pm

oh no, feel better! If you ever need a last minute babysitter in park slope to give you some rest, my friend Lauren lives in the neighborhood and is babysitting her unemployed heart out for the past 6 months to save up for grad school. She’s pretty much amazing with kids. The moms call her the baby whisperer. I swear. haha.

you will get so very many karma points, for sure.

  • jodi February 23, 2010 at 3:52 pm

oh, goodness. i hope everything turns out okay.

as far as the bronchitis goes, i came down with it mid-december and am just now finally coming out of it. *knocks wood* i thought i cracked a rib from coughing, but it was “just” a bad muscle pull. and i keep re-pulling it when i reach just a little too far for something.

hope you have a speedy recovery!

  • jalyn February 23, 2010 at 8:20 pm

hi jenna. this is my first time posting to your blog, which i love–thank you! just wanted to ask “have you tried acupuncture/herbs?”. i’m quite sure a few treatments could do you a world of good–for strengthening your lungs and building your immune system, in general. (it’s helped me a lot.) there are at least 2 low-cost acupuncture clinics in brooklyn — you can go to http://www.communityacupuncturenetwork.com for more info. my prayers to you and your family. be well!
