today in class

Claudine’s been going to class at Mia’s school since September and despite the fact that she’s been going once a week for 7 months, she’s still shy in the classroom setting. I’ve seen some small progress, but sometimes it’s a bit frustrating because I know how brilliant she is (haha, doesn’t every parent say that?), but in class she is like a little lump. She really loves the painting portion of class, however, and she becomes really focused and serious about her painting. It may take more time and I’ve seen her exhibit rare instances when she comes out of her shell, but it would be great if one day people could actually see the awesomeness that is Claudine.

Awesomeness has many forms that people can see.
My nephew was the most outgoing, entertaining, funny kid everywhere except the classroom, which was really weird for me to see. We started really talking to him about how he felt at school, with the other kids, and he’s had some really great teachers encourage him to engage, and he’s done so much better breaking out of his shell the past year.

Although mine are much younger, I totally understand where you’re coming from. Lily is such a sparkling happy girl but she’s SO shy and reserved in public. Meanwhile Logan laps up the attention and hams it up at every opportunity. So when we’re out (at a restaurant for example), he gets attention from everyone and little Lily pretty much gets ignored. I wish I could make people see that she’s just as awesome as he is. Just a little shy….

You’re posts always make me smile, this time it was “like a little lump.”

I was the second born daughter in our family and was also very shy to my sister’s outgoingness; maybe there is something to the birth order thing.

Jenna, I actually like it that my little one is reserved in public. I think the other moms love it even more, and are often envious of us because reservation = not running around screaming, picking up everything, throwing tantrums when the class is doing X while he/she wants to do Y. The moms in the classes swear it’s because of the boy/girl difference. From the pictures, it looks like Claudine is really engaged in the activities, but just not necessarily a social butterfly. I think that’s awesomeness in itself. 🙂

C has “aire mystere.” She draws people to her without being an extrovert.

Yeah, she’s just perfect the way she is! I love the picture of her reaching up to put a leaf on the window. That cute little hand just slays me!
