We didn’t barbeque on the 4th, but spent the day eating out a lot. Brunch with friends at Sidecar here in our neighborhood and dinner at the Mermaid Inn in the East Village where our friend Matthew is chef. Gravalax, shrimp and grits, eggs, raw oysters, calamari, fluke ceviche, beets, goat cheese, crabcakes, cod and of course, french fries. Mia ate everything as usual, but in one surprising move, taking a break from her fries, Claudine picked up an empty oyster shell and sucked in some oyster juice. And speaking of unexpected moves, who the hell taught this kid the beauty pageant wave? I happened to look down while I was pushing Claudine in the stroller and saw her doing that wave, fingers together, hand moving in slow deliberate movements.
Hahahaha I love that she was waving in the stroller! 🙂 Great pics, and all the food sounds fantastic.
Sounds like a lovely day and some great food was had.
Cute about Claudine too.
What is it with kids and gender roles? My boys incessantly make shooting noises and make anything and everything into a gun, despite being a TV free house – where do they get it? Where does your daughter get the princess wave?
the food looks fab! and i always love your photos and the stories you share :O)
I love reading this blog. It’s like a great magazine. Love the pics, keep em rolling. Btw, how come your kids eat so well and eat it all?! My kid ate chicken and rice yesterday, and I cheered. lol.
Oyster juice?!? Sounds like PROGRESS! Claudine, a big hug from Seattle for being such a brave girl!
i have to say i’m totally jealous of the fact that Mia ate everything…if only my girls were that adventurous. i’m trying though!
