and now this feels far away

September 6, 2011 |  Category:   friends life travels

What is it about vacations that make it feel like it happened a million years ago once you get home? This was our first day on the San Juan Islands with our friends Sara and Thor and it feels so long ago even though it was the weekend before last. It’s actually a cool and rainy day here in NY. Prelude to what Fall might bring. School starts for the girls in 2 days, but first…more photos of the island to come…

Beautiful! I’m going to make it a destination to get to one day. Do you know of similar places (water + cabin + lots of trees) near NYC?

Fall did come suddenly here in Brooklyn! It’s put a rather pleasant hush on my neighborhood.

I’m insatiably curious — what are those lime green things under two of the chairs in the last photo (they look like boosters to me) — and where do you get them?

I think it’s all the new impressions you get when you are on vacation. When you do so many different things each day time seems longer and then in the end everything seems further away more quickly. Lovely photos, I would love to visit the Northwest some time!

Hey, Tabatha – those are boosters. They’re made by Kaboost – – and they are seriously awesome. I recommend them highly.

OMG, how awesome is Thor for sharing. Already looked it up and they sell them here in Sweden! So happy…these will let us bring back two of our kitchen chairs making our collection whole again (1960โ€™s Swedish modern). Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh, on days at the flea market, my dad used to cart around me and my two sisters in a little red number like that.

So beautiful. We went to the Pacific Northwest for the first time in June and fell completely in love, now we just wish it wasn’t quite so far from Scotland…

I know how that feels. Goodness. It does seem so, so distant, almost like it never happened. Thank goodness for pictures.

Last August we took a similar trip beginning in California and ending with Lopez Island. We camped out on a friend of a friend’s property right by these big beautiful yurts. Here are some of the pictures.

Fall is on the way. We’re suppose to have a week of upper 60 degree weather here in the midwest. I’m sure it will get to you soon.
