goodies from Paris

March 8, 2011 |  Category:   friends happy purchases

Wow, thanks for all the cookie names. I like how some of you came back to make even more suggestions, ha! And amazing that with almost 200 entries so far, there are only a handful of repeat names. That’s crazy. Ok, so we have a lot of names to sift through, and you know what? I realized that we’re less than a week away from our blog anniversary and we always do a giveaway to celebrate, so we’re going to pick 2 winners as usual, 1 random and 1 name winner if we do in fact use a name out of the pool. You get to pick another pack of cookies of your choice to go with your booty, so we’re closing the contest a day earlier since Mark will be baking those cookies Friday and we want them to be fresh. Maybe we’ll throw something else in there as well.

Speaking of fun things in the mail, our friends Nichole and Evan picked up these treats for us on their last trip to Paris (not the candle, the candle is from Target, but Nichole has become my candle pimp. She keeps giving me candles every time we go over to their house). Included in the package was a bar of dark chocolate with pink peppercorns. It reminded her of our pink peppercorn cookies, but we wasted no time in eating that right away, so no photo.

Nicole and I have been trying to go to Paris together for a long weekend, but it doesn’t look like it will happen for Spring as we’d originally hoped. Maybe in the Fall, but the girls, Mark and I are getting really excited about our upcoming summer trips. We’ll go back to Seattle in August as usual, but we’re looping in a trip to San Francisco and Yosemite while we’re out West. At the end of May, we’ll spend 4-5 days in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. We haven’t been there before.

Is it summer yet?

Make sure you go to the sand dunes in the Outer Banks! We were 21 and had a blast rolling down dunes that were the size of mountains!

If you have the time, I’d recommend taking a day-trip to Ocracoke. It’s the southernmost island and you have to take a ferry to make it over but it’s fantastic. About 80% of the island is all beach and then at the most southern tip is a great little town.

You will love the outerbanks! I agree with Ocracoke and be sure to check out the wild horses that inhabit the island.

@ Liza and Elizabeth. That island sounds fantastic. I don’t know if we’ll have time? We’re only there 4 full days. We’re driving so we have 2 travel days. We’re staying near Avon, doesn’t look like it’s too far. Will look into it, thanks!

One of my favourite part of summer means that I get to visit my inlaws in PA and order your cookies! I could use a little (or a lot) of summer right about now!

I miss going to the OBX ^_^ Such a nice quiet vacation, well it might be busy since you’ll be there around Memorial day, but it’ll be a fun experience.
Check out Kittyhawk Kites while you’re there, it’s in a little shopping center right across from Jockey’s Ridge Park where the biggest sand dunes are.

Those look even better in your photos! I love the Outer Banks. We used to stay in a house in Corolla and it was so peaceful there. Jealous!

If you’re interested by a trip in Paris maybe you’ll read with pleasure an old guidebook by an american named William Pembroke Fetridge : The American travellers’ guides: Hand-books for travellers in Europe and the East, being a guide through Great Britain and Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Switzerland, Tyrol, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Spain, and Portugal (1869)
You can find a pdf in google book search !

You should check out Duck in the Outer Banks. Nothing but houses and beach and a cute little commercial area with a few shops (including an amazing donut shop!) which is nice if you want to walk around and take a break from the beach. There are also bike paths everywhere and bike rentals are cheap, so you don’t need to drive. We drive to the Outer Banks from NYC every year and it’s very doable, but I would recommend staying closer to the entrance of the Outer Banks (Duck is cute, but Southern Shores, Nags Head or Kitty Hawk are also close) rather than driving farther south.

Ocracoke is beautiful and has a really nice, relaxed vibe, but it takes a long time to get there between the drive and the ferry. I wouldn’t think 2 days is enough.
