March, and no obsessions this month

Well, I lied a little. I’m obsessed with looking at this jar of candied kumquats because it’s so sunshiny and summery (recipe here). We like to put it on ice cream and use the syrup for teas. I think we’re all wanting Spring to get here already.

I’m also obsessed with those Vita Coco Coconut Waters (wait – they come in flavors??). We buy them in bulk from Costco and since we usually don’t drink anything but water in our house (we’re not big juice or soda drinkers at all), it’s a nice change sometimes.

So yeah…after such an expensive February in which so many big things died on us and had to be replaced I haven’t popped into any stores or been tempted to look online at my favorite shops in awhile. Sometimes I get into this phase where I can be super disciplined about not spending money and be more diligent about funneling money into savings (this usually coincides with tax time when I’m looking at the overall financial picture and panicking about retirement and college). But I know that once the weather gets 10 degrees warmer on a consistent basis I’ll want to start looking at sandals again and see all the pretty new things that are coming into stores. The only purchase that I made in February was new luggage to replace our super old and heavy set that wasn’t practical with the new baggage weight allowances. Plus with the girls getting bigger, we needed more suitcases anyway. I asked you, dear readers, a while ago what you thought about hard case luggage and most of you liked it. We did end up getting this hard case carry on from Samsonite as well as a bigger 28 inch size, but what sold me was the spinner wheels. Holy crap, it’s so much easier to handle! And so much better for people with back problems like me. It was so fun to maneuver that the girls fought over who would pull it around at the airport.

I think we all have the travel bug at the moment now that we’re down from our Disney high and fully entrenched back in life. We’re thinking about summer travel plans and weekend trips already – gives us something to look forward to as we sludge through March, which can still be quite dreary. Do you have any travels plans this year?

We’re heading to Nashville in April for my husband’s songwriting career and then hopefully a week in NYC sometime this summer – a trip I am planning to celebrate the year I turn 40, GULP. I love your blog Jenna, thanks for keeping it real.

Always love your blog! Glad you had fun at Disney world. No trips planned yet but were hoping for one last international trip before we settle down with kids.

@Pamela Hope you make it happen! We haven’t been off US soil since the kids! Which is about 10 years ago. So close with the bahamas but not meant to be. One day, I hope soon!

We took our kids (10&12) to Thailand last December. We’ve done Europe before but Asia is so far and everything is so different that we felt we needed a little bit more time. It ended up great and the kids loved it. Now that we’re back, I have the bug to travel again!

i’m obsessed about going back to ireland. i dream about being there almost every night… waiting for the cheaper air fare to kick in later in the spring. meanwhile, i’m enjoying a sip of whiskey every once in a while and thinking about putting together a cheesy, green outfit for st. paddy’s.

Do you put the syrup in black tea I wonder? My boyfriend is bringing me to Lisbon in June because I am paying my way through college. So generous of him! Yippee! P.s you could send your daughters to college in Europe, top Universities are cheaper here!

I really enjoyed your Disneyland posts! I was wondering what your take would be… we loved it as well. My husband and I just booked a solo trip to NYC during the first week of May and I think we will be back again in August with the kids (as I have my apartment in Harlem available). It was really difficult to decide where to book our 10 year annversary trip as we already knew we’d head out in August but at the end of the day New York City without kids is a totally place than it is with kids. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

If you like Vita Coconut water you should try Harmless Coconut water (http://www.harmlessharvest.com/100-RawCoco) I’m addicted to it

We’re off to Disney ourselves in April, and since I’m having a baby in August, I’m trying to cram all my Cape Cod trips and camping trips into the months of June and July. I left my husband and kids for a week last Fall to go to Europe with a friend, so I got my travel jones fixed for awhile. 🙂
