Fireworks…I think it must have been 4 years since the last time we saw them? Since it appears that the move by the Macys Fireworks show to the Hudson River is permanent – at least for now – we haven’t really bothered trying to see the fireworks since that first year (bring it back to the East Riverrrrr!!!).
You know…I kind of forget sometimes that even at this age, the kids are still experiencing things for the first time, especially since it’s unlikely they remember anything about their first fireworks showing. We were also pretty far away that time. This year we saw fireworks in my mom’s town and we were right there under the explosions, so much so that ashes and other debris were falling on us. It was a bit scary, I won’t lie, but also really cool. Claudine kept saying “how is this happening? How do they make this?” I told her it was magic.
Amazing! You really captured some beautiful shots. 🙂
I remember being in awe and also a bit scared at that age!
wow! you captured such amazing shots!
Beautiful pictures!!! I also saw an Independence Day fireworks here in San Diego and tried to capture the moment in my camera. The result, none came out great… Oh well. At least I saw them. I feel when I was small, I was much more thrilled to see fireworks. Nowadays I am wondering how many people are working to prepare for fireworks, instead. Ha ha ha.
Oh how beautiful. I’d love to see these blown up and printed! Love your photos, can feel the tiny bit of stress mixed with disbelief on your daughter’s face. Our anniversary is on the 4th and a couple years ago we were in NYC so we had fireworks for our anniversary and got to celebrate with all the ‘Mericans, pretty cool 🙂
Beautiful photos of the fireworks!!! What setting do you use on your camera?
these are amazing photographs.
p.s. love your blog.
these photos are awesome!
i don’t know what i love most: your photos or your way of writing. very touching.
wow, incredible… esp the last shot!
these are beautiful photographs! i especially love the last one.
You are right…fireworks are magic.
Jenna- these are the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever seen! You are an amazing artist!
Your photography, takes a cliche subject such as fireworks and presents it in a new way. These are fantastic, breaktaking even! The last two, especially… Thanks for sharing!
I love how clear the smoke clouds from the fireworks are in your photos. Is that your daughter scared/excited in the 4th photo?
Thanks everyone!
@Christine – these were at pretty wide aperature and short shutter sped
@Jessica yes, the smoke clouds were the most surprising thing about the photos. Yes, that is Mia, covering her ears.
These are so beautiful Jenna! I love fireworks & haven’t seen them up close for quite a while. They used to set them off from a point on the coastline of Victoria & we would sit all along the top of the bluff to watch on a warm July 1st evening I’ll never forget. Thanks for sharing.
Calendar 😉
“How is this happening? How do they make this?” are some of the best lines ever. It’s still sort of true, even as an adult. How IS this happening?
I used to be scared of loud noises like that when I was little, too. (Still am, to some extent.) My mom always says that sensitive hearing in children is a sign of creativity…
Oh that last pic is wonderful!
amazing photos, jenna….love them all!
really beautiful photos. great atmosphere 🙂
