dear 2010

January 1, 2011 |  Category:   life

A year of extreme highs and lows. A 40th birthday. An ailing parent. Crazy, and I do mean crazy weather here in NY. New friendships forged in stone, some older friendships slipping away. A perfect summer vacation visiting friends and family in Seattle. An end to our relationship with our nanny of 6 years and facing the unknown of juggling school-as childcare with work schedules. A 5 month intense working stint at a big advertising agency (first – and last – time for everything). And at the end of every year I look back and feel like I got away with another year of freelancing, my 9th, working mostly on my terms and I wonder if I’ll be that lucky again the next year.

This was a hard post to write. 2010 was hard so in the end I just kept it simple. I can use a little less drama in 2011. But the one constant I see when I take a look back at all the photos of our year is the relationship that the girls have with each other, that sisterly bond. I can see it in the photos. No matter what year it is, I hope that never changes.

It is a very lucky thing to have a sister. My sister and I are two years apart and I am the younger one. I’ve been in love with my sister my whole life, and as corny as it may sound, she is still my very best friend.

We enjoyed those pictures of the sisterly love that they have for each other. They are just so adorable!Have a great new year!My 3 girls are each 2 years apart & are much older so those types of pictures don’t come very often…I have tried but as teenagers the last thing they want to do is hug each other. πŸ™ But I know they do have a special bond being so close that I don’t have with my sister who is 9 rs younger than myself.

Happy New Year to you, Jenna! I’m so grateful to have stumbled upon your blog last year. Stupidly, I didn’t really know what a “blog” really was up until then. You’ve been an inspiration – in more ways than one. Best wishes to you and yours and may 2011 be all you dream of and more. Cheers!

Happy New Year… still following and loving your blog! It is such a strange experience following a blog of a total stranger but I love it. As our kids are around the same age so it is fun watching how they grow and experience life in different countries. I have said it before, as have many others but I\ll say it again… I LOVE your pictures of the girls. Hope 2011 treats your family well.

Yes, 2010 was a year fighting cancer for me. Good riddance.
My sister and I have had our ups and downs, and that is maybe a thing to remember: they will always have each other to “return” to if they have times when they are more distant (teenagers?). We are 58 and 60 now, live an hour apart, and see each other frequently.

You have so many incredible pics on this site, but my absolute favorite is the one of the girls embracing at the hospital. When I first saw it, it made me teary eyed. I love, love, love it. Thank you for continually sharing your life experiences with us. Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family, Jenna.

*BTW, I also have a little sister and even though we weren’t close growing up (I hated having my own “shadow”), I couldn’t imagine my life w/out her now. I love her so much and I am so grateful for our bond and connection. The girls are tremendously blessed to have each other and to have such loving, wonderful parents.

Christie, I love that picture too. I keep looking at it. It’s so special.
