fall semester ends and the holidays are really upon us

Both girls are done with classes and school this week (C takes 1 class a week at Mia’s school) and starting next week they’ll be on holiday break. While attending the last class with Miss C, I noticed these great handmade library cards sitting on the fireplace mantel that the kids in Mia’s school created. She’s been bringing home books from school every now and then and while I understood that they were on loan, it all made sense when I spotted these in the class space. Such a cute and clever idea to start a little library system for the kids! Much of what M does in school remains somewhat of a mystery since she never really talks about it at home so it was pretty nice to see this glimpse into her world, even if it was just a library card on a mantle – it still showed so much. M will start her last semester in January at her current school before being shuttled off to Kindergarten. Yes, the kid is most certainly growing up.

As a visual artist and art educator, I must say I love seeing Mia’s drawing: obviously she has been observing her world very carefully and is working hard on translating that observation, compared to the mostly random and unorganized scribbles of her schoolmates.
I love that library card system (and C’s dress)!

Pema never talks about what she does in preschool either! She’s starting kindergarten in February and it will be a huge change. I’m a little sad that her back-to-school shopping will be at the uniform shop at the mall. I mean, it’ll be good on the whole to have uniforms, but I always remember getting cool new school clothes and being soooo excited to wear them! I really wish there were classes like SCP here for Charlie…
