Oh, did I say I liked summer? Not this kind of summer. The East Coast just had one of the worst heat waves in history. It’s a bit more tolerable now so I think we’ll be heading to the beach on Sunday after Mark’s return to the Flea tomorrow (rain is in the Saturday forecast though, bummer!).

Even though it’s been hot, the kids have been outside all week. Mia had her first week of camp, ever. She loved it and got to ride a pony, along with a bunch of swimming in the city pools and beaches. Because I was “late” in registering her for camp, she doesn’t go again until August which is really dumb, but I’ll know to register early for next year in you know, January (sheesh).

So we have a lot of kid time in the next 3 weeks. It should be okay. The biz is in its summer slowdown so Mark is functioning like a normal human being. I have a pretty aggressive work schedule with a new startup but it isn’t as stressful as the big ad agency, so it’s cool. Yes. I do believe that life has stabilized onto a calmer path.

I’m starting up this weekend with some drinks at the Ace Hotel with a cast of talented women from the design/food/styling world. How about you?

I just finished grouting the vestibule, and I’m celebrating with a cocktail…and ordering in Chinese food tonight.

This weekend took forevvvvver to get here, and I don’t want to waste it!

Summer in Amsterdam is hot too… with more heat than we’ve had in years. But, the kids seem to love it so I spend a lot of time at the sandbox – in the middle of the historic center with all the canals. Something nice for mom to look at 😉 Tomorrow, my husband is buying me a facial – some much needed me time! Life here is slowing down, in a summery kind of way. The calmer path you’re mentioning? I think I just found a bit of my trail today.
    Bye! Roos

So hot. We’ll go to the frms mrkt, and then I plan to bake a galette with my 3 yr old. We made one last weekend, (blueberry/peach), but now I need to try cherry b/c your cherry photos made me want to eat my screen. It does seem to be cooling off a bit…have a fun evening.

Even though it’s so hot, I’m baking pizza and bar cookies. The cookies are for the boy’s kid’s book club tomorrow morning, so I can’t really beg off. Have a great evening!

Compared to last week, Chicago has cooled down a little. Still in mid 80s however.

I’ve had a rough day so I’m kicking off my weekend by baking some mini pies using Mark’s recipe! (replacing cherries with blueberries instead)

    Have a great weekend!

Believe it or not, it’s actually hot here in Vancouver too! Sadly I’ll be glued to my computer preparing for a soft launch and waiting patiently while we work out the kinks on my site. Scintillating plans, I know! Really enjoying your blog… It’s quite inspiring for someone like me who’s just starting a small business. You’ve done such a wonderful job with it!

    I feel your heaty mood.
Summer here too in UAE (Dubai) is extreme! At least 40 degrees (with hot air blowing directly at you) and some days 50 degrees (max) in the sandy suburbs!
Can’t help feeling faint by just being outdoors for few mins!

The great outdoors during summer here is not advisable..

Lovely pics of your girls 🙂

It’s been hot here, too. My weekend will be filled with farmers markets, bazaars, and cozy movie watching at home so that I can savor the weekend before my vacay is over and I start working again Monday. Good times. Enjoy yours!

Nice to hear that you will enjoy a slower pace in the heat. It’s chilly here. My weekend is all about friends in town and world cup festivities. Hope you enjoyed your night.

It’s been a strange mix of rainy and sunny. The result of this: lots of humidity! I ended up exploring Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture in Oak Park, IL… and eating some lovely basil gelato from a quaint Italian deli!

You and your girls are fearless … i didn’t dare set foot onto Pier 6 this past week! Still hoping for the heat to break and, eventually, the trees to grow up.
