It’s 1:30am. I know it’s technically Tuesday, but the week already seems impossibly slow and long. It’s a holiday shipping week (Valentine’s Day), so it’s nothing surprising. We’ve been through this before, but some days wear you down. Mark has a whole week of long days ahead of him. It’s days like this where we think we’re really stupid not to have hired help or an intern from a culinary school, but it’s one more thing on our long list of things to do. We just haven’t gotten to it yet.
On my end, I’ve been juggling a couple of projects, including our W&S website redesign. There are a bunch of things brewing too, some projects that will pay the bills, others that I’m crossing my fingers for. I rarely ever get excited about design jobs – I mean really truly excited – but there is one that I’m really hoping will happen. I’m grateful to be busy these days, but I do sometimes feel like I’m scattered all over the place.
And then there are projects in my head that I want to do for fun. My only enemy is time.
In other news, Mia’s got a new hobby that she learned from one of her classmates’ parents at school – finger knitting. She’s been making scarves for her dolls and for some of her friends (saw our neighbor kid wear one to school today when we picked her up in the morning. So sweet). She says she wants to make a bunch and sell them at craft fairs. She named her business, “Knitting Delights”. I gotta say, it’s a step up from what she declared she wanted to be a few years ago – a cleaning lady.
so cute!
So adorable! Perhaps she’ll become an expert knitter one day.
“knitting delights” ๐ perfect !
ahahaha, she is really something!!! Knitting Delights is a wonderful and creative name, she’s on her way to become a business lady!!! And yes… way better than cleaning lady! You just made me laugh! ๐ have a great day! Twiggs
so brilliant!
and beautiful pictures as always. i love pictures of hands working.
i went through a cleaning lady phase as a little girl. my mom says i used to spend all weekend obsessed with making bags of trash. So funny- because what kind of trash could a kid really have?
Funny, I kind of turned into a mess as an adult:)
What a fantastic name, Mia. How interesting that time is also my enemy (wish i didn’t enjoy sleeping as much). You guys will get through this next week – just take it one step at a time. BTW, I hope you get that design job.
Talk about a flashback… I remember knitting w/ my fingers as a kid. I think it’s awesome that the same little hobbies, crafts, and games seem to stay alive each generation. Very sweet!
Oh, and yes… Monday felt like the start of a very long week! Here’s hoping that it picks up a bit today ๐
So sweet! I think I’d like to learn finger knitting too if I could make my own scarfs. Well, maybe that’s easier said than done.
Have you ever thought about taking up meditation? I know that you are incredibly busy (yeah, I know!) but this daily practice will literally add hours to your day simply because it provides such deep rest and relaxation. Both my husband and I meditate 20 minutes a day. And it is amazing how those 20 minutes of rest spill into the rest of the day. Really, you should try it… I think you’ll gain a lot from it.
Such an entrepreneurial spirit that Mia has! Beautiful yarn she’s working with, and love the name of her business ๐
Adorable! I laughed so hard after reading the last line of your post. Looks like your girls were blessed with some creative and entrepreneurial genes!
So funny! Mia’s quote reminds me of how my cousin said she wanted to be a waitress when she was little.
Cleaning lady! Hahaha, so funny, I love those ideas from children because they don’t have the value system that we, adults, have about jobs.
I read all your posts since a few months. You inspire me a lot, having myself, with my boyfriend, a bakery cafe shop in Matane, a small town of Quebec, Canada. We are thinking to sell some of our products online to increase our income and we have so many projects but not so much time to materialize our ideas! Just like you, I think…
I wish you and your family a nice Valentine’s Day!
haha =) that last line was precious. it’s great that your kids are learning to be entreprenurial by your example. i think that’s the best education they can get for the lost decades ahead (hopefully cyclical factors kick in and it won’t come to that, but…). cheers.
Knitting Delights!! fantastic!! Love it!!
Cleaning lady!?? I never knew that. What a pip she is. Already thinking up a business that long ago…wow! I was impressed how she ran her “nail salon” at our house last summer. She’s got the biz in her blood alright.
Oh this is so precious Jenna! What a little entrepreneur you have on your hands! I remember several years ago when my daughter first learned to finger crochet (my sister taught her)…that following Christmas everyone received a handmade scarf with little pom poms sewn onto the ends for flair. The look of pride on my daughter’s face as each person unwrapped and immediately put on their special gift was beyond priceless. Thanks for triggering the memory for me through your lovely post! xo Ez
Alexi says he remembers finger knitting; I’ve never even heard of it before reading your post. Mia and Abbott are such peas in a pod; he’s always cooking up some entrepreneurial scheme or another. And, he used to dream of being a cleaner.
Excited to hear about the projects coming your way! Fingers crossed for you.
hahahahaha…. cleaning lady.
