nearing the end of an era

Mia’s entering her last few weeks at her preschool, the only program and school she’s ever known. Come September, she’ll join the throngs of hundreds of other neighborhood kids at our local public school for Kindergarten and move from her current class size of 7 to three times that size. She’s been talking about Kindergarten for almost a year now and gets excited with anticipation every time we walk by the building. True to form, she’s very matter of fact about leaving her school, where she has spent the last 4 years going to class as a toddler, and then preschool. Characteristically, I’m more sappy about it than she is. I just don’t know that I am ready for girl cliques, crushes, peer pressure, homework and all the other stuff that goes along with having a school-aged child. It’s all good, but it all is happening so very fast.

I wasn’t ready for 5 straight days of school as opposed to 2-3 for preschool. Kindergarten is so much fun and just wait until all the reading begins! It will take ages to walk down the block with a learning-to-read-kindergartener!

Aww, that’s so cute. I think as parents we’ll always be more sentimental at the time passing by!

“girl cliques, crushes, peer pressure, homework”
i can identify with this – we never seem to outgrow it…

It seems like I blinked, and suddenly my oldest is 9. How did that happen? I’m not sure, but I agree. . .it’s happening all too fast.

I have two little girls too (with a boy sandwiched in between), and it’s definitely different raising girls than boys! Seems like your Mia is ready to move forward! Awesome!

I am right where you are Jenna. Oliver’s last day of school is today and I am feeling a bit sad too. He can’t wait for kindergarten either and will be starting at our public school in the fall. If they only knew the milestone this is for us. Every time I look at his picture – in his little cap and gown, I feel so proud and yet wishing that I could freeze time.

I am feeling the same way. my daughter finishes preschool in two weeks and moves on to kindergarten. I am so not ready for 5 day -all day long -peer pressure school. they are so innocent of cliques and peer pressure now. i hate for that to end. It is such a milestone and makes me sad and happy at the same time.

It goes so fast, doesn’t it? My youngest is ‘graduating’ from preschool and will be at his brother’s school next year – for prek, but still, full day big kid school…
