yeah, we get it

Whatever happened to the 3 or 4 snow storms that we get per winter every year? Now it’s just all snow all the time. We get it, winter, we get it! It’s snowing outside!

I’ve written a bunch of long winded, wordy posts recently (do people read blogs with word anyway?) so this one is just short and sweet. A weird day: some frustrating situations, forgetting to walk the neighbor kids to school, some really good and hopeful news, stressed under a deadline that sends me holed up in the bedroom, stuck in my own head and facing that whole self confidence thing head on while the rest of the family plays Wii.

Yes, people, we have video games back in the house! Not since we sold our Nintendo 9 years ago after Mark spent 1 month of unemployment playing the entire Tomb Raider series have we had a gaming console. I went back and forth on this, but I got Mark a Wii for his birthday (what games should we get?). I think it’s way funnier watching the kids move with that controller than watching whatever is happening on the screen. The coffee table has been pushed out of the way. This is serious, yo. And sadly one of the reasons why I got the Wii was so I can eventually buy Wii fit and maybe get anything resembling a bit of exercise in. How pathetic is that?

That’s neat about the wii. My daughter got one for her birthday from her uncle and it’s actually been pretty positive. There was some obsessive behavior in the beginning (she’s 8) but now she accepts the limits I set on it and looks forward to playing it……AND it is fun and funny (to watch). I’ve considered the wii fit as well but as of yet, it’s a no go. HAVE FUN!!

i think your blog is the only one where, when i see lots of words, i’m excited to read on. i feel like i can learn so much about being a wife and a mother from you. i like your style.

i definitely need something to introduce exercise in my life.. getting a wii is on my list. have you seen dance 2? that is a definite workout but also hilarious to watch.

  • Sara Tejada January 26, 2011 at 10:08 pm

If you want to introduce something fun that is a heck of a workout do the Kinect. I’ve never been much of a gamer. The last thing I played was Super Mario Brothers in Super Nintendo back in the days. But I got my boyfriend the Kinect for christmas and it is a blast, and at the end of it your heart rate is through the roof, then you realize that you have been “exercising” for an hour!

And I agree with Whitney. Though I am not a wife or a mother, i love love your posts. I do enjoy the photos as well πŸ™‚ Thank you!

The Wii Fit is fun, but it’s easy to ignore and not play at all. I’ve had my Wii for three years now and haven’t touched it in two. In our house the big thing is the XBOX Kinect. I call it the “Wii-killer”. It’s alot more fun to play dance and fitness games on the Kinect than the Wii because you don’t have a controller to mess with.

Also we’re stuck in an El Nino pattern which is why you guys are getting more snow than usual ^_~

    love your blog with words!

The call of duty series is fantastic if Mark enjoys a war game – this is DEFINITELY not for kids. But there are some tennis games, super mario brothers, FIFA soccer and something called Wii Resort(not sure if its still selling) – that is awesome for the whole family to play.

  • Funkysteph January 27, 2011 at 3:37 am

Oh please, don’t say it is pathetic as the Wii fit is the main point that make me considering the Wii….
By the way I did too read your wordy posts and they were great ones!

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is amazing for kids and grownups – stunning graphics, adorable storyline, and oh man! My arms!
Seriously, the training sessions at the beginning when they teach you how to use all your stuff (your horse, your sword etc) is really like working out, it certainly limited how long I could play each time!

Plus, the graphics and characters are just so pretty!

I’ve been letting the Wii fit abuse me of late. And quite enjoying it, really. The boys really like all the Super Mario games on it, but I prefer the silly ones on Wii Sports Resort.

I hope all that snow is not headed across the Atlantic to us – I’ve had quite enough this winter.

Forgot to say in my comment before that I just love the look of that snowy wintry day, it’s a beautiful photo. Wish I could build a snowman here but it was 88 degrees outside today! A bit too hot and humid.

We love to play Boom Blox on our Wii, that is great for children as well. And my husband bought the Mario 25th Anniversary box, that way your kids colud play the games you used to play when you were young!

I love your blog! long text, short text, no text!

and if you really want to have fun watching Claudine and Mia play get the ‘ just dance’ wii game. i love watching Tino and Mila play this. hilarious!

  • Alli January 27, 2011 at 9:51 am

I love Boom Blox as well! That and Wii Resort (especially the bowling and table tennis) are pretty much the only Wii games I play, and both are super fun for kids (or kids at heart). Though I am saving up for Mario Kart because that was my absolutely favorite game on N64 and I miss it…

    How about Guitar Hero Metallica?

  • Kristin January 27, 2011 at 10:16 am

You should look into buying “Just Dance 2”. My Mom and I battled it out with Ike & Tina Turner’s Rollin’ on the River. We laughed our butts off while working our butts out. πŸ™‚

Super Mario Brothers is also a blast to.

  • Angelica King January 27, 2011 at 10:44 am

I agree Zelda is awesome and of course Super Mario Brothers. My girls love playing SMS with there dad

i don’t mind it at all when there “are more words” on the blog! not at all. and when it comes to Wii, i’ve heard that the exercise is quite good too… so go 4 it and don’t feel at all pathetic!

I love your blog! I feel like I am not alone in my own design challenges. BTW I love a blog with words!
As for your new console you should get Wii Sports it has plenty of games where you can incorporate the balance board and its fun for all ages! Oh and the girls will love Raving Ravids!

  • haley January 27, 2011 at 4:35 pm

I love to read your blog! You are smart and absolutely hilarious!

  • Laura January 27, 2011 at 10:03 pm

We bought Just Dance 2 for Christmas and we all love it! It is hilarious watching my 6 year old dance to it!

  • Kaci January 28, 2011 at 12:26 am

I really like Wii Resort. Except you need a special add-on controller to play (one is usually included). Celebrity Sports is also really fun especially when you’re competing against other people. I loooove the horse racing game, such a great arm workout too. Guitar Hero is sooo challenging. I suck at it but my roomate loves it. If you like Metallica, you should get it. I think there are 28 tracks by them and a bunch more by other bands.
