Mia’s preschool class took a field trip to the Museum of Modern Art on Friday to see first hand, some of the artists that they had been studying for the last few weeks at school. The 9 kids were super hyped up at the train station when we all met up, but were perfect little commuters on the 35 minute subway ride to the museum. Can’t say they super focused on the art – not surprisingly for them, it was all about the seeing their friends outside of the school environment and the excitement of a break in the routine. It was a nice change of pace for me as well, from being stuck inside for 2 weeks. Nothing like taking a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds to one of the most famous museums in the world to make you feel alive again.
did you get to see the marlene dumas’ show?
did the kids like the pipilotti rist video installation?
Love the movement in all of the shots. Although I suppose it was accidental since it’s impossible to get them to sit still. I also love the one of Mia standing in her gorgeous coat. Do they make those in adult sizes? 🙂
that looks like such fun
Gabriel, We didn’t see the Dumas show and the pipilotti rist installation was already over. There was so much that I wanted to see, but really, the attention span of the kids were 45 minutes at best, and then they needed to run around the sculpture garden to blow off steam. I’m better off going by myself to look at the exhibits at some point.
the marlene dumas is worth a look if you’re around there again. i always thought her work as just a mix of rothko and pornography but this show adds on to that perception.
i didn’t like the video installation but it was a crowd pleaser – it made the museum look like an airport terminal/shopping mall.
have mia and claudine ever been to the children’s museum at snug harbor in staten island? one of my niece’s loves that place. it would be a great warm weather trip because the chinese scholar’s garden is there also. i’m optimistic that better weather is just around the corner!
i just love the photographs you take. this is the reason why i visit your blog on a daily basis. 😀
Love the picture of them all doing ring-around-the-rosy in front of the Matisse. So cute and great photo op!
agree with Fog and Thistle!
I love how the kids are mimicking Matisse’s painting. Field trips are always so much fun.
Love love love that the school is taking the kids to art museums at such a young age. Seriously great idea. I saw a similar group of kids when I was at the museum in March and I swear they were more enraptured with the art than a lot of adults!
