Like many people, I’ve been using Instagram a lot more these days to capture snapshots as I move through my day, especially when I’m outside. Beats lugging around a big camera. Seems freeing and I feel like I’m more likely to take street scenes with my phone than I would if I were whipping out a huge camera. There’s a calmness to these shots. Even in a big bustling city, it’s possible to find quiet corners and alleys.

i LOVE these photos… they are such a beautiful slice of new york city! i was just wondering – do you love living in Brooklyn? my husband and i visited new york for the first time in october, and we both thought that if (when?) we move there, we’d love to live in brooklyn. it’s so beautiful, and peaceful!
I have always dreamed of traveling to New York, ever since I was very young. It seemed so far away. (I’m from Greece).
Your photos of the city always make me feel like I’m there, and everything looks exactly like I was expecting it to.
Thank you.
Beautiful, how you’ve captured these street scenes. Love the new redesign of your blog too. Very nice!
I am really amaze with the picture. Really beautiful…
Thank you for these street scenes! My mom, sister and I are flying out to NYC for 5 days in March, and I am so excited to finally get to experience your city up close. These photos have put me in the mood to do some trip-planning tonight!
Happy Weekend, Jenna.
Careful on that “corner near our apartment in Brooklyn.” This past Tuesday, as I was crossing 5th Street at 4th Ave, a guy came and stole my iPhone 4 out of my hands as I was using it, ran and got into a car that drove away. I volunteer at the PS Infusion Center, so I’m there weekly. It was a) traumatizing and b) really upsetting to lose my iPhone 4 considering cell phone contracts, now I’m back on a borrowed 3G and I haven’t even touched it, let alone instagrammed with it! Just wanted to give you a heads up, Jenna!
What lovely photos! I haven’t been into the city in so long; I’m really starting to miss it.
You may be right! I feel self conscious at times and let a photo opportunity pass me by because I don’t want to pull out my camera. I’m going to give my iPhone a try. I have only ever used it when shopping and want a second opinion on a potential purchase.
Amazing shots. Instagram is wonderful. I keep telling myself I need to carry my DSLR around more, but Instagram just makes quick little shots so EASY!
i love the sunlight in these pictures!

in love with your fabulous city!!!!!
@Alicia sorry to hear that and hope you are feeling better and safer. It’s always traumatizing to be violated like that. Glad you were not hurt. That said, I wouldn’t post anything that made me feel uncomfortable. Appreciate the heads up.
Lovely photos. I live in the Netherlands and it’s funny to see a Dutch “bakfiets” bike on the last one. 🙂
It was great to find you on Instagram, have been reading and loving your blog for a while now, albeit silently.
I love these photos. I agree that it is possible to find quietness in the city. I haven’t yet got a smart phone – I was resisting and now I think I’m ready to embrace it because I imagine all the phone snaps I would take. I feel like I’m very much in New York streets in my mind at the moment, having just watched the Bill Cunningham documentary yesterday.
new york is so beautiful! I love the way you are looking on sceneries! thanks.
oh man, I’m going to miss this when I move 🙁
These are fabulous shots!
Nice shots…totally addicted to Instagram. I just started ordering mine to create an album.
I love your photos. I know you said a lot were taken with your phone…but when you shoot with DSLR what camera do you use? I am new to photography but I noticed how your exposure is perfect in every shot! Will you post what you shoot with and favorite lens?
Thanks, Diana
