But gourds…gourds are so weird

What is it about vegetables and gourds that compel grown adults to make bathroom jokes whenever they spot odd or elongated specimens? And I find myself rolling my eyes at the girls whenever they start giggling every time they say or hear the word “butt” or “bottom” (Despicable Me didn’t help in this regard). I wonder when they’ll outgrow the bathroom jokes, but apparently, judging from remarks I overheard standing near the gourd bin freaking out at how weird some of these look, a lot of people never really grow out of it.

“I like bottoms. They are funny and chubby.” Giggle giggle.

def look like strange underwater critters or warty aliens. I’d love to find an old old Audobon illustration of one in the wild!

That’s a good point. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one out in the wild on vines.

“Butt” was considered a bad word in my house growing up. Me and my sister were forbidden to say it to each other! My parents were crazy religious zealots, and wanted their children to be perfect well-spoken little ladies and not like the heathens we went to school with.

So glad times have changed! I do admit whenever I see a pork butt in Whole Foods I start cracking up….so strange!
