coming too fast

October 24, 2011 |  Category:   life outings seasonal

Last week of October. Suddenly trying to cram as many Fall activities in on the weekends before it’s all over. After last year’s farm fail out in New Jersey, we stuck to pumpkin picking on Long Island. I think the trees are a bit confused by all the warm weather we had in September and October because the leaves are still fairly green. Mark and I turned to each other while we were driving in the car yesterday and said “the holidays really are around the corner, aren’t they?” Time to fasten your seatbelts…

Beautiful pictures! I think the trees are all still green from the crazy amount of rain we were getting last month too. Love fall – we still have time to enjoy it during November too!

Hold on indeed! There’s only one more week left of October (egad!). Btw, what are the girls going to be for Halloween? Are you dressing up?

such lovelly pictures! i have been poking around your blog lately because your daughters remind me so much of me and my family. we are half chinese/half american and it’s so much fun to see more people like me online. i love your mixed race project and think it’s such a clever idea. my sister is pregnant now and her husband is portugese, so we are dying to know what the baby will look like!

its crazy. feels like it was just summer.. Just a few weeks ago I was in a t-shirt and almost any day now the snow will start. What happened to September? and October? It feels like it was the first and then boom, 20th. oh well. Lovely pictures as usual, your girls are so adorable.

where in long island? we went to the queens county farm, which was a bit less countryside and a little more farm inside residential neighborhood, but this looks like what i was expecting/wanting.

I’ve been craven the holidays something fierce during the last few days and I can’t figure out why. I guess I just feel it sneaking up on us… But I’m dying for a slew of fall activities this week. I feel like we’ve barely had time to absorb this season yet!

I was telling my husband the same just this weekend. Let the family fights begin…..

The vine maples (always the first color) have just started turning red this past weekend here in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range. Always makes my eyes happy. Used to happen as school started, so a very late start this year!

Ohhh I think I recognize that place! Is that Schmitt Farms? We were just there a couple of weeks ago too! They have a great corn maze and yummy apple cider!

  • Jenna October 24, 2011 at 6:21 pm

@Carolyn yes, that is schmitt farms.
@yen. see above. It’s still sort of suburban in that it’s surrounded by houses – there are more rural farms out on Long Island and we do like to visit them on the north fork – however, we didn’t have time to drive that far out. This farm is fun though because it has a HUGE corn maze and just enough activities. It’s not super commercialized even if they pre-pick the pumpkins from the patch so that they sit out on the lawn, which is sorta funny…

Love the photos. When did Claudine all of a sudden become a long legged child? I still think of her as a toddler!

  • Atsuko October 24, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Love. Love. Love these pictures. Girls are very cute. I miss pumpkin picking because the place now I live does not have the “real” one… It is also scary truth about the holiday seasons are around the corner. This year is getting close to the end. Cannot believe.

  • Jenna October 24, 2011 at 7:44 pm

    @lauren yeah, she’s no toddler!

HAHAHA…my family just had the jersey farm fail incident yesterday @ alstede farms. pure chaos. wish i read your post from last year before i planned the trip. kids still had fun but the grown ups just got cranky. wonder if anyone knows any places in jersey that are nice and less crowded. your pumpkin patch photos are beautiful. i have photos of my kids sitting on lopsided, stemless pumpkins on a sparse field of dirt. at least i can laugh about it. 🙂

Thanks for the beautiful pumpkin pictures, Jenna. I bought a 4″ pumpkin for a friend and drew a spooky face on it but it would sure be nice to have a real one. They are not grown here so I don’t buy the big ones. Mahalo, Marie 🙂

Your pics are so beautiful, for a moment I wished it was Autumn. Instead the hustle and bustle of spring. Lovely.

  • Mary October 26, 2011 at 3:52 am

Pumpkins = yum. And if Mark feels like posting a recipe showcasing how you might use all that delectable flesh, there won’t be any complaints. Nope, not at all.

Jenna, it’s actually the first time I visit your blog -where have I been ?! And I love your photos. So simple, lively, and beautiful. Very happy I found you. Happy evening 🙂
