Really can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday – and Father’s Day at that – than on a farm on a cool, breezy early summer day. We’ve made a point to go strawberry picking every year since the first year we went a few years ago upstate and it’s been a nice way to start the summer and the fruit picking season. It’s funny to watch each girl pick the berries (this year we went to Alstede Farm in Chester, NJ). Mia got a bit frustrated early on because she couldn’t “find any”, but once she found her rhythm she wandered off away from us and made quick work of filling her basket. Claudine, on the other hand, stuck close to us and would hold up every berry after picking to examine it and show it to us to make sure it was a “good one”.
I’ll show you more photos of the farm tomorrow. We spent almost 4 hours there! The weather has been really nice and with cloud cover and peeks of sun, it was quite pleasant to spend all those hours on the farm.
The rest of Father’s Day was spent outside on the stoops with our neighbors. Typical Brooklyn sidewalk scene with beers, kids on skateboards and scooters, playing ball and running around. I don’t think any of us wanted to go inside or let this perfect summer Sunday end…
ahhh, we were gonna go to the Alstede farm on Saturday, then i remembered you posted some really nice pictures from Terhune Orchards, so we choose to go there instead… by the time we arrived, there were no more cherries to pick… we will definitely go again to both farms (Alstede and Terhune!)
Lovely photos. Sounds like a perfect father’s day. There’s something quite wonderful about strawberry picking. Still waiting for it here in England, but it will soon be time. Enjoy your week : )
That sounds wonderful. I grew up picking strawberries and blackberries in my grandparent’s yard. Have a wonderful week!
I love the pictures Jenna–especially the one with Claudine’s tongue out and when she is proudly examining her berry. Chuffed!
Beautiful photos Jenna, I can’t believe how much your kids have grown. They both look adorable. I am loving your instagram amazing photos.
Best Wishes
Looks like a good time. Can’t wait to see more pics.
How time flies – I still remember finding your blog for the first time last year and reading about the berry picking from last summer!

@Stephanie ha, that is funny! We were actually going to go to terhune again but we called ahead and they were all out of strawberries, so we decided to try here.
Beautiful photos! Great Father’s Day outing too. I can almost smell those strawberries right through the laptop screen. You are inspiring me to take our girls to Tanaka farms over here ( in OC).
It looks so very pleasant there.
It also looks like Miss C has grown!
Oh wow, that’s near where I work! I know the Alstedes and they are good people though I have yet to ever visit their farm. From what I’ve heard, some days it’s so busy with people trying to go there that it holds up traffic in the area! Looks like you guys had fun 🙂
Oh, that looks so nice. Strawberry picking under the hot sun is not so pleasant, but when it’s cloudy it looks very calm and enjoyable. Love the pictures.
I’m loving these posts about NYC area day trips. We are Brooklyn based too (just discovered sfd via Pink Ronnie) and we’re planning to check out some of the spots you’ve mentioned!
