I’ve written about my love of Ismodern, the children’s clothing line designed by my friend Tami Nguyen Rael, and her enormous generosity. Well, I just received another surprise of samples last night after placing an order for some dresses currently on sale to include in the girls’ Christmas presents (Ismodern has the best sales!). I adore the 2008 fall/winter line and once again, Tami has tucked in shirts, skirts and pants from her current season that will fit both girls. Thank you Tami, for helping to make the girls so fashionable.… CONTINUE READING

I went shopping. It was a rare day spent looking at pretty things with a friend on a gorgeous, late summer day. We hit the Barneys Warehouse sale where I managed to escape with only $52 from my wallet (additional 40% off now), and as hard as I tried to find something really special, I came away with 2 basic shirts, one black and one brown. It’s both a relief and a disappointment since it’s almost like a missed opportunity to buy something you normally wouldn’t at a decent price (I’m looking at you Shii Ann and your tinman dress you bought today), but anything remotely interesting either didn’t come in my size or fit right (there’s some downright fugly… CONTINUE READING

… but this time I have given in. There are just too many good mid-summer sales right now! It’s dangerous to see just how easy it is to spend some cash once you start, after having been good about it for so long. I picked up these Matt Bernson sandals the other day at 40% off and I’m glad to have some options other than flip flops to wear, which is what’s usually on my feet during the summer (don’t look at my toes, I’m finally using my Mother’s Day Pedicure gift certificate tomorrow – my first pedicure in 5 years). I also picked up a few other good deals and suddenly, I feel like my wardrobe’s refreshed. Never mind… CONTINUE READING

Loeffler Randall sandals

I went on one of my ruthless closet cleaning rampages and donated more stuff last weekend. I need the closet space and there were clothes that I wasn’t wearing (and if I think about it too much I’ll probably regret giving some of the items up). I almost forgot that I bought these Loeffler Randall sandals last Fall when they were marked way down. I waited and waited till they went further on sale as the weather got colder, and then they were mine. I haven’t worn them yet and probably won’t for another week or so as there is rain in the forecast for 6 STRAIGHT days, including Flea day (seriously guys, not so funny anymore), but I really… CONTINUE READING

a new dress from an old skirt

A few months ago I finally got around to doing something that had been on my list for a very long time. I had a skirt that never fit me very well, but I loved the textile so much that I couldn’t bear to give it up. I loved the hand-brushed orange circles and the crinkly textured fabric – it was almost like paper – so it was too bad that the skirt fit oddly. One day, however, it occurred to me that it would make a gorgeous dress for Mia (and eventually Claudine). I made the dress and hung it in the closet where it remained for a few months. Today was like an unexpected summer day – blue… CONTINUE READING

April 13, 2008 |  Category:   happy purchases

A few days ago I received a nice package from Tami, designer and owner of Ismodern. Tami and I became friends through Babygadget, a site that I run and co-own. I’ve been really strict about not spending any money at all in the past 2 months aside from start up costs for the business, but I really could not resist buying an outfit for Mia from Ismodern’s Fall line, which went on sale after her Spring collection went up. What a nice change to get something in the mail that was not cello bags or boxes. When I opened the package, Tami had generously tucked in extra samples from the Fall line for both girls (this is not the first… CONTINUE READING
