animals, fish, and chocolate

We’ve really gotten to know Seattle much better this time around on this trip. Even though we lived in Olympia and Portland, we never really spent enough time here to get used to the layout of the city, but Mark’s been navigating his way around pretty well (in a HUGE Ford Explorer, no less). We spent the last 2 days going to the zoo, the Ballard Locks and exploring the neighborhoods of Ballard and Fremont.

We ended our day taking a tour of the chocolate factory at Theo Chocolates, organic, fair trade chocolatiers based in Ballard. M was the most attentative among us during the 1 hour tour, piping in and raising her hand to answer questions from the loopy tour guide and really getting into the whole hairnet experience and following the diagram of the chocolate-making process. Um, did I mention all the chocolate samples the girls ate? So much so that M declared she felt funny and dizzy all the way home.

That last picture is soooo great! Look at her deep in thought! If she someday starts the next Scharffen Berger this pic will be so apt!
